Where Freedom and Peace Reside

How tormenting to have done the Christian journey of learning about God, knowing God, serving God, reading/studying the Bible for decades, going to church weekly, praying, worshiping, tithing, while even practicing self control, because we feel like we’ve given our life to God, only to find ourself internally tormented.

This was me and it’s where many of my clients find themselves, desperately wanting to find that peace that passes all understanding and to live in abundance. However, they have no idea what the problem is or how to heal, until they learn about the egotistical mind.

We start out discussing a life filled with sorrow, regret, trauma, wounds, stress and striving, only to leave them frustrated, depleted, depressed, defeated and feeling lonely. Using an old school flip chart, I help them to understand that they have an egotistical mind that is destroying their life, because they are identifying as their thoughts and feelings, rather than being aware of them. Once they are aware of the problem, they can finally do something about it.

This is what my flip chart looks like:

Passive – Victim Aggressive – Superior

Focused on being attacked by people Focused on Body Image

Plagued with Sickness/Diseases Consumed with Knowledge

Focused on Unfortunate Events Consumed with Positions

Focused on Accidents Consumed with Wealth/Career

Focused on Injury/Loss Consumed with Possessions

Focused on Being Manipulated Consumed with Relationships

Focused on Being Used and Abused Feeling Better Than Others

Focused on Having Been Deceived Admired-Favored-Popular

The Consequences of Desiring to be Special

Judgemental

Jealous

Comparison

Stress/Anxiety

Doubt

Worry

Fear

Defensive

Depressed

Frustrated

Angry

Un-forgiveness

Bitterness

Envy – Shame – Guilt

As we discuss the chart, I explain to them that although we resonate more with one side or the other, we all vacillate between being a passive victim, to being an aggressive snob. Regardless of the specialness our ego identifies with, we all experience the same consequences which causes us to not know ourself as a spiritual being of light/love and our oneness with God, it keeps us from experiencing heaven on earth, which is peace, joy, abundance and the eternal bliss.

Although people come to me because they believe they are being tormented by other people and their circumstances. Their real problem is the egotistical mind. It entraps us into believing that it’s thoughts are our thoughts. It does this with the word “I”. For example we’ll say; “I hate this” or “a part of me thinks this”. The question to pause and ask is; “Who is the I?” “What part of me are we talking about, my True Self or Egotistical Self?”

When we are thrown out of peace, we can be sure that the egotistical mind is at play. It’s imperative that we stop, pause/breathe and ask ourself:

What are we feeling?

Why are we feeling this?

When have we felt like this in the past?

What is the truth that we need to be set free?

There is a freedom and peace on the other side of the ego, it’s where our True Self in the Devine is found!
