Cheating on my husband early in our marriage, I had bought into the ego’s lie for many years that “you’ll be fine as long as you don’t get caught!”
I’m here to tell you from experience that first of all, we all eventually get caught, but most importantly, if by some remarkable chance we didn’t get caught, we still have to deal with guilt, shame and regret and no one, I mean no one escapes those consequences!
So what is the difference between a clear conscience and a guilty conscience and why is it so important to maintain a clear conscience?
Clear Conscience
A clear conscience is essentially living in alignment with your True Divine Self! It’s doing the things we know we should do and not doing the things we know we shouldn’t do.
We all know the food we should be eating, the exercise we should be doing, how we should be productively spending our time and money, the positive thoughts we should be having, and the help we should be offering to humanity. When we are doing those things, we are living in alignment with our True Divine Self, which brings us an incredible amount of; peace, joy, happiness, confidence and motivation. It raises our vibration and promotes healing of the mind-body-spirit!
Guilty Conscience
A guilty conscience is essentially living in agreement with our two part ego (Angry Protector/Fearful Victim) or sub-conscious mind. It’s mindlessly doing whatever we want, without worrying about the consequences. This path is all about what’s easy, convenient, and simply doing what feels good or consuming whatever tastes good, without considering the consequences of shame, guilt, regret and/or how it might affect our life, or the lives of those we love. This is a low frequency state of mind, that often leads to pain and suffering.
It’s really not that hard to cultivate a clear conscience, it simply takes awareness of what we are thinking and feeling and then make conscious choices that align with what we Truly are as a Divine Being, rather than an ego.
What helps me in moments of egotistical temptation, is to recognize what the ego wants, and to remind myself of what I want more. Then I ask myself, if I follow the ego’s guidance will it give me the life I so desire?
Simple Example: I recognize that the ego wants french fries, but I want to be fit and healthy! Will those french fries give me the fit/healthy body I want, or will it hinder me from having what I want?
Another Example: I recognize that the ego wants instant gratification and to be intimate with that person, but I want to have a clear conscience and to be trusted! Will hooking-up with this person give me the reputation I desire? Will this cause people to trust me, should I be found out?
As you can see, the ego never wants us to stop and think of consequences of a guilty conscience, because when we do, we take control of our life and eventually let go of the ego.
We are powerful Divine Beings, it’s time we use our awareness of what we are, what we want and what the ego wants, then make choices according to the life we desire to have.
