Do I Have The Heart of a Glutton?

If you know me, you would probably be shocked that I would even ask myself this very serious question.  You see I own a wellness business and I am a very disciplined person when it comes to my diet, exercise and supplementing routine.

But here’s the deal, I’ve struggled most of my life with my complexion and once again I broke out with huge pimples this week!  The thing is, I can tell you exactly why I got each pimple.  As I was praying about my complexion this week, I heard the Lord say “humility will heal your face!”  To be perfectly honest, I was shocked, because if humility will heal my face, than pride was the reason I broke out!

So I thought back to what I ate that caused these pimples, which was this delicious gluten-free veggie pizza, with tomato sauce that I’m allergic to.  Then I wondered why I ate it when I knew the consequences that I would endure?  Well just like any temptation, I did what most of us do, excused it away, thinking a little bit won’t hurt.  What I was doing was self-gratifying! In fact the definition of gluttony is greed and self-gratification, which of course is rooted in pride!

I was shocked, bummed and humbled to think, that I really do have a problem with gluttony!  I always thought people who were gluttons over indulged or binge on food.  I’ve come to realize it’s an issue of the heart and it’s a huge problem in our nation and in our churches.  We’re not ok with drunkenness, adultery, drug abuse or pornography because we know the destruction it brings to a person, family, church and nation, but some how we accept gluttony, maybe because we didn’t really know what it is, or maybe most of us are guilty of it.

Would you be willing to ask yourself some hard heart questions and if you’re guilty of gluttony as myself? Would you be willing to join me in repentance and begin to humbly take care of your body the way God designed, no longer making excuses to satisfy our fleshly desires?

2 Timothy 2:22 So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart!

Heart Questions:

Are there certain foods I’m not willing to give up?

Do I ignore the promptings of Holy Spirit to abstain from certain foods?

Do I have cheat days?

Do I make excuses to eat or drink things I know that are not good for me?

Am I willing to suffer the physical, mental and spiritual consequences in order to eat a damaging food?

Philippians 3:19 Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things!
