When I started my healing journey, just like you, I wanted desperately to lose weight, get healthy and to even have a toned body! So I began to research the amount of calories I needed to restrict and burn each day! I studied carbs, fats and protein. I ran out and bought the popular DVD’s that promised I’d be “ripped” in 30 days! Then I bought the top of the line scale to monitor this miraculous change that I “expected” to take place.
I was so diligent to track everything I put in my mouth. I exercised 6 days a week, but guess what? The scale wouldn’t budge. Well, it did at first but then I did what they call plateauing! It was during this time that the scale became my God!
I would wake up feeling great, maybe even skinnier, I was super excited for my day, then I stepped on the scale and it reported that I had actually gained a pound! I’m sure you can relate, to this moment where discouragement over takes you, thoughts of giving up flood your heart and mind. Not to mention your day is now ruined!
This was the turning point for me! I decided that I had, had too many days like this, I would no longer let the scale dictate my life! This was when I realized that it’s not about my weight or calories. It’s about being healthy and if I focused on taking care of my body the way God designed, then as a result I would have the health and body I wanted.
It’s been a year now! My diet consists of veggies, fruit, meat, nuts/seeds, water and Matcha green tea. A treat for me is a piece of gluten free bread or a piece of dark chocolate. I take my vitamins/minerals and detox daily. I know people may think I’m ridiculous, but I want to first and foremost be a great steward my body!
I still try to do challenging exercises most days, I follow online trainers that offer a full body workout. The workouts are free and I’m seeing results. Some of my favorites on this journey have been:
My body is healing and changing. I’m finally beginning to see definition in my arms, my six pack is beginning to show, I have a lot of energy and feel great!
When we give up our way and do it God’s way, stewarding our body the way he designed, we reap the benefits.
Blessings to you on your journey!
