I use to get very irritated and offended when churches promoted an Easter Egg Hunt! I felt like it takes away from the true meaning of Easter. I felt so strongly about this, that I justified my critical, judgmental spirit with the thoughts and feelings that it was my duty to defend and protect the true meaning of this holiday!
It’s been a long process the Lord has taken me through, to circumcise my heart and to give me this new perspective, that if Jesus’ resurrection is about love and our purpose on this planet is to love people, then that should be my focus.
If someone comes to our churches for an Easter Egg Hunt and feels loved and honored, isn’t that exactly what we are called to do, to demonstrate the gospel of sacrificial love?
Would Jesus care more about parents bringing their children to receive blessings and love or my judgmental heart?
I’ve had to learn over the years to love people where they are at and love them in the way they feel loved. If it means a Harvest Festival in October, or an Easter Egg Hunt in March, so be it. I just want them to come and experience Christ’s tangible love!
