I had blurred the line between expectation and trust. In fact I’m not even sure I really knew there was much of a difference. I’ve come to realize that expectation is rooted in pride and trust is rooted in humility!
Expectation comes from placing me at the center of my universe and who I am! Trust comes from placing Jesus at the center and understanding who he is and his love for me! When we focus on ourselves, our positions, status etc. We can slowly move into a mind set of expectation. However, spending a great deal of time on the truth of the gospel that without Jesus we are nothing and all that we’ve overcome is because of him. Everything we receive is by his grace, then our perspective changes, humility sets in and we are in a place to receive.
These are the definitions of Expectation and Trust:
Expectation: assume, calculate, predict
Trust: reliance, belief, faith, confidence
We have an enemy that is constantly working to distract us from trusting Christ, and tempting us to focus on ourselves and our own strength and power to succeed! He’s looking for those who are prideful, stressed and weak, attacking those who are not sober minded, these are the ones whom are easy to devour. 1 Peter 5
We would do well to examine our hearts daily to see if we are being prideful or humble, expecting or trusting !
