Most of us have been taught by religion, parents, friends, teachers, relatives or by our culture of a place of fire and brim stone called hell. Although each religion has a different take on the specifics of this place and the people required to go there. They can all agree on one myth, and that is, it’s a tormenting place for evil people.
Each religion also has a vast amount of ways to avoid such a terrible place; prayers, pennants, belonging to the right religion, works or good deeds.
So now we have a tremendous amount of people, going to their religious organization hoping and believing they’ll learn how to some how avoid hell and in the process, maybe find out how to stop living a hell on earth!
I would say everyone experiences some form of “hell on earth!” This hell is created by;
Traumatic Experiences, which create our thoughts – beliefs – perceptions of ourselves and the world!
Thoughts, Beliefs and Perceptions Create: Doubt – Worry – Stress – Anxiety – Anger – Fear- Resentment – Shame – Guilt – Depression – Judgement etc. etc. etc.
These Symptoms of Thought/Beliefs Creates: Pain and then we do our best to cope with the pain by following our ego’s plan: Repress it, Self Medicating, Prescription Medications, Sex, Materialism, Pornography, Self Harm etc. etc. etc.
Which Produces: A false Identity as a user and abuser!
I’ve come to the conclusion after over 18 years of counseling, that hell is made up of our thoughts! That’s why the apostle Paul said in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 “For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
The war Paul is talking about is the war in our own minds. It’s the war with our own egotistical thoughts that were created by past experiences that we’ve had. When we are young, we depend on this egotistical thought system to protect us and help us survive in this world, through “fight or flight,” or “putting up walls.” The problem is, we get so attached and brain washed by our egotistical thoughts, beliefs and perspectives that we bond with it and take it on as our own identity.
This is very similar to the Stockholm Syndrome: When a captive, begins to identify closely with their captor (brain washing).
The three keys out of this hell;
We literally need to see our spiritual selves as kidnapped by an egotistical thought system, learn how it works, dismantle it and return home to the peaceful beginss in Christ that we are.
