Do you remember what it felt like to make forts out of blankets and chairs, creating your own sanctuary, setting the rules for those who wanted to enter your domain? You were the boss, made the decisions and for a few minutes you were the respected leader.
Do you remember running all over the neighborhood or at least your own street, making up games, riding your bike and not having a care in the world? That was until the street lights came on, then it was time to transport back to reality.
In my opinion one of the greatest things about childhood is being able to cultivate and enjoy the endless use of our imagination. When I ran a daycare for 10 years, I knew it was important to have dress up centers, sand boxes, crafts and story time, to promote creativity and imagination.
When a child starts school, they’re pressured to suppress the imagination, in order to focus on the “more important things” such as learning, so they can one day have a job and make money. I think what we as adults fail to see is, that in the imagination is the child’s calling, purpose and destiny. It’s the place God has designed for them to dream.
As teens, most of us are still trying to hold onto our imagination, but the pressure to conform to a society with a “just get a job mentality,” forces us to stop dreaming and we lose the path to our purpose. By the time we enter adulthood we have no idea what our purpose is. We have no hope, we often feel stuck and depressed.
It’s time for us to reclaim our imagination. To take time every morning and dream of the life we want! The places we want to go, the people we want to serve, the relationships and health we want to have. Then we start making goals to get us there! Being intentional every day to take action, that will move us closer to the life God designed for us!
This looks like asking ourself some questions such as;
You were designed for greatness! God planted dreams inside of you just waiting to be claimed! Start today by unlocking that imagination!
