July 2019 I wrote a blog titled Blazing A Trail Out of The Church! It was my journey of leaving my life/identity behind as a Christian Leader to pursue my oneness in Christ. Which really sounds like an oxymoron! I mean most people go to church with the intention of knowing more about God. I was leaving because I saw how my ego was using ministry to feel special which in turn, caused me to continue living and promoting this false image. When in truth I desired above all else; to know who I am in the Divine.
Flash forward 4 years of diving deeper into my identity in Christ and being a spiritual guide, I’ve been; helping many people shed their ego’s and experience their true identity of love-light-peace-happiness and ultimate freedom from the egotistical mind. They are learning that living as their true self is far more important than maintaining a false identity in order to feel; loved, wanted, needed, accepted and special.
There’s been 2 things I’ve found most interesting about the Identity Journey:
Offended Ego’s
I seem to unintentionally piss ego’s off on Facebook. Yesterday I saw a meme that said; “I’ll stop being a Conspiracy Theorist, when the rich and powerful stop conspiring!” Without acknowledging that there are a lot of people who take pride in being a Conspiracy Theorist and feel like they are helping humanity by being the keepers of truth. I said; “I use to be a Conspiracy Theorist until I got tired of being fearful and angry, then I had to shed my ego!”
Well the backlash was unbelievable, the egotistical attacks and comments went on for days, with people trying to prove why they needed to identity as a Conspiracy Theorist. I realize that identifying as a Conspiracy Theorist makes them feel special, because they are knowledgeable and informed about what’s really going on behind closed doors. Therefore to ask them to shed their ego and give up this identity, would be as hard and shocking as me walking away from Christianity after 33 years. Never the less, their ego’s perceived my comment as an attack on what they think they are. When we think we are anything other than a spiritual being and one with the Divine, we will have to constantly live on the defensive.
Leaving The Group
The most awkward question I get from well meaning Christians, is if I’m a Christian? It starts off with; What church do you attend? Do you have a home church or group? Do you still read the Bible? Do you believe in God? Finally; are you a Christian? Why all the questions? Because they are trying to label me, so as to put me in a box labeled “Good or Evil!” This will let them know whether or not I’m a safe person or a heretic.
I tell them I have an intimate relationship with Christ. I’m growing tremendously, and helping others to heal mind-body-spirit! That’s when they usually say; “well you do look happy!” The reason I’m so happy is because I’ve dropped the egotistical identities that kept me judging myself and others. I know who I am, so I no longer have to stress and strive to please people. I can relax and be my true self, and that’s all I want for everyone; to shed their ego with it’s special identities and be who they truly are as one with the Divine and everyone.
Let’s face it, while in this life, we are all actors playing character roles as; parent, grand-parent, child, sibling, spouse, partner, friend, teacher, employee, employer, etc. We like to affiliate ourselves with sports teams, religious and non-religious organizations, political affiliations, recovery and activist groups, etc. and there is nothing wrong with any of that, it’s part of story we call life. However, the problem is; that when we don’t really know what we truly are as spiritual beings; one with the Divine and each other, we will fight to defend a false identity we’ve taken on, because of the group of people we align with. This false identity veils what we truly are and keeps us divided.
The great awakening is the shedding of our ego and awakening to what we truly are! Let’s no longer hold on so tightly to false identities, so we can unify and experience peace on earth.
