The foundation of our belief system and how we live is rooted in the ego’s question of “What are you?”
Everyone desires to know what they are and why they are here, and there are an infinite number of ways to awaken or discover the answer to this question. The great divide seems to be rooted in ego’s believing and teaching, that their way is the right way. When we can realized and accept, that not everyone is going to resonate or vibe with us and our journey/teaching, we will begin to be open minded and unite. Whatever path we choose, should however be a transformative journey out of fear and into peace/love.
Life is not just a series of unfortunate events, but a school to teach us what we are so we can help others. The problem is, that when we begin this journey we are mostly operating from the egotistical mind and “ego’s can’t hear Holy Spirit. But it does sense that part of the same mind which made it, is against it.” ACIM
Therefore we do need guides that we vibe with, believing their journey to be authentic and their message to be true for us!
As we grow, transform and evolve, our teachers often change. My first set of spiritual teachers: Richard Rohr, Eckhart Tolle, Wayne Dyer, and Ram Dass, taught me about duality and having an ego. Which is important, because we have to remove the egotistical blockages, in order to hear Holy Spirit and awaken to our True Self in the Divine.
Once enough blockages were removed so that my heart and mind could open, I was then ready for a deep dive into identity, which A Course In Miracles provided. My identity and journey, is pretty much summed up in this quote from ACIM:
“You (spirit) are a child of God, a priceless part of His Kingdom. Which He created as part of Him. Nothing else exists, and only this is real. You (spirit) have chosen a sleep in which you have had bad dreams, but the sleep is not real, and God calls you to awake!” ACIM
I chalk up my transformative/awakening journey out of egotistical mind and into my true identity, to four major things:
I’m often told that; I seem so much happier than a few years ago, I’m inspiring, I’m different; more open minded, non-judgmental, more loving etc. They can tell I’ve done a lot of work on myself!
As the Bible says, “You’ll know them by their fruit!” These recognitions from others are my fruit and the certainty, that my miraculous journey is setting people free, and yet, I still hold my journey lightly, knowing my way is not the only way, and I’m not for everyone.
Find a Spiritual Guide, someone who can help you remove the egotistical blockages of: Un-forgiveness, Bitterness, Stress, Anxiety, Doubt, Worry, Fear, Shame, Guilt, Resentment, etc. Then get busy on recognizing what you truly are and and why you are here. That’s when you’ll be able to structure your life around that, making it the guide post, and motivation for all you think and do.
The answer to what are you, and why you are here, is within you. To awaken to those answers, some Inner Work needs to be done, with an experienced guide. It you don’t know where to start, start with Eckhart Tolle’s book; The Power of Now and see if his teaching resonates with you.
